HORACE W. GARFIELD
1810 - 1863
Horace W. Garfield, born in 1810 in New Hampshire, was the 5th child and 2nd son of
Josiah Garfield and Polly (Ball) Garfield. In the spring of 1836 Horace, traveled with his
wife, Sarah (Fellows) Garfield, who he had married in New Hampshire before leaving,
to Jackson, Michigan. Having arrived in Michigan before it's entry into statehood, they
took advantage of a Federal Land Grant offer, set up housekeeping and began farming
which they continued to do untill his death. Horace and Sarah had 5 children.
